Memories from KG days

Few incidents stand fresh in my memory, surprising to the very nature of my current absent mindedness. Might be these memories are taking a lot of RAM space, let me try and download to make more space.

There were a lot of gym equipments at our school campus. They had these bar climbers, shaped in a big arch, square, triangle. I do not remember what made me to climb one of these, but I did. The boys kept climbing up and sliding out on these poles(which was in between the arch at the highest point)repeatedly during the recess break and the excitement that they sported made me take that giant step one day. It probably would have taken a lot of effort to reach the top and then i looked down and the way I had to take the next step and the way back. I took a long time deciding, by then a small group of enthusiasts had lined after me, and then the recess bell rang. I was totally in a do or die situation when my tall class teacher extended her arms to bring me down. I happily jumped at my saviour clutching her tightly. It was my first indecisive failure. After which I engaged in a totally different sport trying to save all the first timers hesitants who were trying to  muster courage to climb the arch. I would chase the gawkers until they forgot there original intention and also the reason why a puny little girl is running behind them. It was those days when we didn’t have to reason out for any actions...

At the end of my KG I decided that all others had super powers except me though I did win a merit prize, it wasn’t meritorious enough for me. My prize stood on the campus with its head held high uncoveted. One day I will climb you and step out like Neil Armstrong.

2. It was in UKG during a winter season. The hero of this incident is a Delhi sweater which my grandma had got for me. It had a belt with huge Pom Pom like balls on both ends. We were playing ticket collector and I had to issue tickets, so I just started pulling out threads from the pompom and we had a huge turnover of kids that day to play with us. Our small group was overwhelmed.

My mother who had come to pick me up asked musingly what did the teacher give you in class. Every child is carrying something special. I did not answer as I did not receive any. And then one look at their hands and my sweater gave away the answer. Nothing remained of the pom-poms except few threads. I had lost that huge pompom but made a lot of friends.

3. Pencil box

I had a unique pencil box during my kindergarten days.

Happy birthday Appa

 A child at heart

Bestie of all the tinytots

A childlike inquistiveness(which is a rare sight these days) with 0 level ego. A undying Thirst for knowledge. Irrespective of who the knowledge giver(small or big) is. These days its grand daughter Anjali sharing info on latest Gizmos. Guess that trait is what keeps him working even after retirement.

A wonderful Singer( His shy nature has stopped him from being a Seerrkazhi or a TMS)

When we were growing up hè would get a lot of story books from MG road(mostly Russian and English authors) but not once compelled us to read. We used to keep gazing at all the wonderful pictures for hours( those served as a window to an external foreign world). These  sparks of inquisitiveness drove us to read the books. A real teacher is one who sparks up and also facilitates our journey towards knowledge seeking.

A great sportsman, all the cups on the showcase are the proof of  his achievement.

Above all a great Father, best father in law.

Happy birthday Appa
